Stars pour out to support Usher's big Broadway debut!!!
Usher has something to smile about---a stellar Broadway debut performance
I was fortunate enough (thanks to my very good friend, Angie) to go along to opening night. Going in I had high expectations about Usher's performance. Broadway after all is as real you can get. Possibly the Uptown verison of Apollo---New Yorkers WILL tell you as it is. I know that and just about everyone else does. But Usher can out proving to naysayers and skeptics by coming out on top!
The highlight of his supporting role (most on his role in a minute) was his charmastic dance and song "Razzle Dazzle." He held a high note and show off he can pull that skill out by looking at his watch. His mother and manager Jonetta Patton was grinning from ear to ear with pride and his brother James Lackey kept bouncing his head to the beat. Verdict: the audience like what they saw!!!
Tony award winning actor and Usher's godfather Ben Vereen's verdict: "He [Usher] did great!"
I have to admit I thought with a superstar as Usher he'll be the main attraction. That role was given to Roxie Hart. The actress who plays Roxie stole the show with her upbeat energy but Usher held his own. Usher portrays lawyer Billy Flynn hired to be Roxie's well you know lawyer. Watching Roxie and Billy on stage I say to myself wow maybe he can pursue Broadway as a potential career path. Perhaps a cameo in "Phantom of the Opera" or "Hairspray"?!?!
All in all...Chicago is a must see even if you're not a fan of Usher. You will not be disappointed!
Gabrielle Union and Jill Marie Jones won the night's honors as best-dressed.
I mistakenly mistook these two as someone else...lol! Don't ask me why...I had to take another look to see it was them and when I did I smiled at them and went onto my business (having fun with my friends!)
Gayle King dropped by with her children.
The after pary was held at Nikki Beach. Stars like Mario, Clive Davis and Rosie Perez were there to liven things up and support Usher as well.
Rosie Perez's runner up for best dressed! She and Salma Hayek are the only ones that pull off clevage wearing tops and still be classy...PERIOD!!!
Insider scoop from the after-party: Usher loves his sushi...and his on-again/off-again assistant Tameka Foster-Glover. He and Tameka left the after party together. hmm...can this be Usher's new on-again/off-again relationship?!?! Time will only tell As soon as I get the film developed, you all will see the pictures I took with the celebrities inside of Usher's afterparty.
