Lil' Kim SUED!
Recently freed from jail rapper Lil' Kim has something else to deal with---being sued! My message to Kim: Don't let them knock your spirit down, Kim! Haters never like to see you shine!
As seen on BET.com:
"Though it’s been nearly two months since the Queen Bee was sprung from the pen, legal troubles seem to be following her. Reggae singer/songwriter Tanya Stephens filed a lawsuit in a Manhattan court last week against rapper Lil Kim (born Kimberly Jones) and Atlantic Records. In the lawsuit, Stephens accuses Kim of using lyrics from Stephens’ song “Mi and Mi God” in “Durty,” which was featured on Kim’s 2005 album, “The Naked Truth.”
Stephens claims that the lyrics in Kim’s song matches the lyrics in “Mi and Mi God” almost verbatim. She also claims that Kim flew her to New York, where she (Kim) sang Stephens’s song, which was recorded in 1997, to show how big a fan she was. Stephens is seeking ownership rights to the song and both past and future royalties.
Kim’s team denies any wrongdoing, however. Her attorney, L. Londell McMillan released a statement, calling the lawsuit a failed attempt to “extract unreasonable sums and percentages” from his client. He goes on to say, “There are no damages to Tanya Stephens; they never objected until after their efforts failed, and Kim was and remains willing to be fair.”
Incidentally, Stephens’s sixth studio album, “Rebelution,” is due out tomorrow on VP Records. She is also slated to appear in New York City’s upcoming West Indian Parade over Labor Day Weekend. McMillan vows to fight the lawsuit on his client’s behalf. "
