Here's a rundown of what's hot in the box office:
1.
Happy Feet
2.
Casino Royale
3.
Deja Vu
4.
The Nativity Story
5.
Deck the Halls
6.
The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause
7.
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
8.
Turistas
9.
Stranger Than Fiction
10.
National Lampoon's Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj
Noticeably so Christmas films are topping off the box office. With just under 18 more shopping days movie goers are running to the movie theatre to get into the Christmas spirit. I'm quite disappointed that "Taj" rounded off the top 10. The actor in the film, who I thought was great in "Love Don't Cost a Thing", may have a better shot on his next movie role. Borat is still cracking the top 10 as well! Animated films are shutting down the real-life dramas/comedies Turistas and Stranger Than Ficition. I guess old and young---animated is still a quick feel good type of movie. Denzel Washington who was recently spotted over in Paris has the box office power rounding off the top 3. Way to go Denz!
Here's what opening this weekend:
Apocalypto
Blood Diamond
The Holiday
Unaccompanied Minors
Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet are returning back to the big screen just in time for the holiday season. From the reviews I read on this film it's must see as well if you enjoy director Nancy Meyer other flicks, "Something's Gotta Give" among others. I found "The Holiday" for the couples only. Dare I say this film is also a chick flick? Naw I wouldn't go there.
My pick for Box Office Thursday must-see is.........BLOOD DIAMOND!!!
Djimonu and Leonardo at their acting best. Leonardo already proved himself with hits like "The Departed", "Titanic" and that "Mask" film. Djimonu went from video eye candy (Janet's "Love Will Never Do Without You music video) to respect actor. Did you happen to see Djimonu in "Gladiator" and "Amistad?" Leo and Dji are teaming up in this gritty eye opener, "Blood Diamond." The film already spark some controversary. Russell and his on and off wife Kimora Lee went on a fact finding trip on behalf of their surname diamond company. Read about Russell and Kimora's efforts [here]. Kanye West had a song, "Diamonds are Forever" discussing the vicious ways of Sierra Leone diamond trade.
More and more diamond trade is getting into pop culture. Maybe so like "Hotel Rwanda" this movie may touch all age demographics about this touchy subject. Go see "Blood Diamond" and educate yourself!
Now if you noticed the banners on my blog about St Elsewhere over the past week...I recently got sent an DVD press release package honoring the release of this amazing TV series from M80teams.com. This is the same TV drama that launched the career of Denzel Washington. "St ElseWhere" paved the way for "ER", "Grey's Anatomy" and many other emergency room-based televison series! Over its six-season run, the ground-breaking, critically acclaimed “ St. Elsewhere ” won 13 Emmy Awards and was nominated for over 60. This is truly a must-have in your DVD collection! Click on the banner above to purchase a copy of "St. Elsewhere." Denzel's ground breaking show aired from 1982-1988. This is during my time. I'm a '80s baby. Best time for TV and music if you ask me.
