Sean Bell's fiance changed her last name legally from Paultre to Bell
AOL Black Voices reports on the story that touch many hearts. Sean Bell was gunned down by the NYPD the day of his wedding. His fiance Nicole sent in an application to change her surname to Sean's in his memory. This change wouldn't be in effect until next week. "NEW YORK -- She lost her fiancé in a hail of police gunfire on what was supposed to have been their wedding day, but a court has ruled that Nicole Paultre can still have his name. A civil-court judge approved an application to legally change her name to Nicole Paultre Bell, in memory of Sean Bell, the victim of the Nov. 25 shooting, her lawyer said. The name change will become official this week, said the attorney, Sanford Rubenstein.Paultre, 22, and Bell, 23, met in high school and had two children together.Police killed Bell and wounded two of his friends inside their car after his bachelor party at a Queens strip club where officers were conducting an undercover operation. An undercover officer began following the victims to the car after overhearing one allegedly threaten to retrieve a gun in a dispute with another man. As the car started to pull away, it bumped the officer and then smashed into an unmarked police van, police said. The five officers who fired a total of 50 rounds have been put on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a grand-jury investigation by Queens prosecutors. The name change was first reported on Essence magazine's Web site. In an interview with Essence.com, Paultre said Bell was carrying their wedding rings when he was killed. After they were returned to her, she put hers on and buried the other with him." {Source} WOW! That is VERY humble of her to do. Would you do that if you were in the same situation as her?

Here's Nicole interview with Essence magazine, "ESSENCE: How have you been?Nicole: Never in a million years did I imagine this would happen to my family. This is all new for me. I’m trying to be strong for my girls. It’s difficult sometimes waking up in the morning, and every night is tough, but I have to be strong for my family. Now my main focus is taking care of Jada and Jordyn. I keep that in my head, that I have to raise my family now. When Jada’s father passed away, I told her, "Jada, Daddy’s in heaven, and he’s an angel." It’s hard for her to understand, but every once in a while she looks up in the sky and she waves to Daddy."
