Sunshine Anderson's back
The "Heard It All Before" singer and Music World Music artist Sunshine Anderson is making a comeback to the music scene according to AOL Black Voice. Red on for BV exclusive scoop, "It was music to my ears when hip-pop publicist Anne Kristoff told me that one of my all time favorite voices was returning to the music landscape, a few months back.
The voice I'm referring to was that belonging to Sunshine Anderson -- the hip-hop soul singing soul sister who delivered the chart-topping, ghetto girl anthem "Heard It All Before" and enjoyed some crossover success with her Macy Gray affiliation back in 2001.
It's amazing how time has flown -- and how the music industry has changed since then.
I have fond memories of working closely with the then-unknown Anderson (Sunshine is her real name) and her Soul Life Records labelmate Anthony Hamilton on their artist development campaign out on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles shortly before her record broke nationally -- wow those were the days.
After experiencing what seemed like overnight success, the former secretary (at the U.S. Pentagon) quickly faded into obscurity when her label's distribution deal with Atlantic Records fizzled out.
No one ever heard of her again.
Even Gray, who was her manager at the time, focused her own talents to cinematic expressiveness when her own recording career took a sudden nosedive and her popularity waned with music consumers.
Well Anderson is back -- and seems better than ever.
She has been working under the auspices of music visionary Mathew Knowles and is signed to his Music World Music imprint.
As previously reported, her long awaited sophomore album, titled 'Sunshine At Midnight,' is readying for release (Jan. 23, 2007). The opus's lead single "Something I Wanna Give You" is enjoying success at urban radio, and recently catapulted to the #1 position on Billboard's "Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles" chart -- moving up 15 spots in one week.
"I'm really excited," the Charlotte, North Carolina native told The BV Newswire last night. "Doing well at #1 this week, is a big a surprise for us," she added. "I'm just glad to be back and am feeling very blessed."
The ringtone for the chart-topping track is one of the first featured in a new initiative set forth by the recently launched Music World Ringtones.com, where proceeds from its sales are donated to St. John's Academy, an elementary school founded in 1999 that aids Houston's neediest children.
"Pastor Rudy and the St. John's Ministry have had a great affect at Music World and in the community, overall," she offered about the charitable endeavor. "And we need to make sure that we do everything possible to make sure that our community has the resources it needs. I'm going to always be down for that." {source}
Let the Sunshine in." Today Sunshine is rolling with Beyonce's father Mathew Knowles record label, Music World Music. Hmmm I wonder WHY we haven't heard much about Sunshine Anderson....
