Before Kelis came "Bossy" and known as Nas's wifey, Kelis was and still is hip-hop's freshest sounding artist. Just when you thought she's going left, she goes right. Case in point her catchy breakthrough single, "Caught Out There." This single cemented Kelis's status in hip-hop. Back then Kelis had wild colorful kinky hair. Kelis was and still a fashionista. {Check out Jay-Z's music video "Show Me What You Got" for proof! The chick dancing in the black dress looks like a Kelis-wannabe. Imitation is flattery at best!}

"Blindfold Me" is the second single off her record, "Kelis Was Here." Her Andre 3000 song "Millionaire" and her song with Nas "In Public" were hits in America and in the UK. Kelis was {and still is} a bigger star in UK with hits, "Lil' Star", Good Stuff", "Get Along with You", and "Young Fresh N New." When she did "In Public" with Nas, she and Nas were engaged to be married. Their relationship instantly made them hip-hop star couple.

Kelis is an inspiration for many artists out today. You may see a little bit of her in Beyonce, Mya or even Ashanti. Kelis's "I Don't Give A F" atttidue was what girls aspire to become. When she came out with "Milkshake", she had everyone singing along even Hollywood! "Milkshake" was featured in the SNL-alum Tina Fey produced "Mean Girls."

Now that's big. You know you made a mark on pop culture when Hollywood puts your songs in their movies. Never missing a beat, Kelis put her vocals and charm on Busta Rhymes's addictive "I Love My Chick."

When Kelis changes up her style, the fashion world takes notice. Kelis recently appear on runway for the Spring 2007 Heatherette fashion show. Gone are the kinky curls and in are the half-buzzed and half girly hairdo only Kelis came pull off.

Kelis went on to release four albums, "Kaleidoscope", "Wanderland", "Tasty" and "Kelis was Here." Nas and Kelis got married in January 2005 and she became a step-mother to Destiny, Nas's daugther from his previous relationship with Carmen. Her next single "What's That Right There" is a personal favorite of mine's, from her new record, "Kelis Was Here", features Black Eyed Peas front man Will.i.am.
