Dame Dash flips the script on MySpace
Dame Dash, co-founder of Roca-A-Fella, has announced plans to bring us all an fresh alternative to MySpace according to BET News. "Music veteran Damon Dash has joined forces with web designer Kwame DeCuir to launch BlockSavvy.com, an invite-only social site geared as an alternative to Myspace.com. The new site, which targets fashion-conscious teens and urbanites, allows users to build a personal profile and decide which neighborhood or "block" they want their profile to live on. Users can also customize their profiles with branded products to display their individual style. BlockSavvy users can embed their "room" into other sites such as MySpace, Xanga and Blogger. Blocksavvy.com users are rewarded with virtual currency called SavvyDollars that allows them to upgrade their room, purchase virtual products from BlockSavvy shops and even convert them to real currency through BlockSavvy's debit card rewards program. Although potential users must be invited to join the site by one of its, which already includes Dash, Paul Wall, Naomi Campbell, boxer Winky Wright and Jim Jones, the site is currently accepting charter memberships from the first 25,000 to sign up." {Source} Dame's alternative to MySpace should be interesting...
In late 2004, Dash sold his interest in Roc-a-Fella to parent company Island Def Jam Records for ten million dollars, and founded the Damon Dash Music Group as a new venture with the senior record company. Dash's other businesses include America Magazine, Armadale Vodka, Dash Management, PRO-KEDS, Team Roc, Tiret Watches, the Rachel Roy Clothing Line, and Dash/DiBella Boxing.
