Jennifer Holliday say hype behind "Dreamgirls" is "bittersweet"

Still, Holliday says none of that would have been possible without her pushing to beef up Effie's role back when Dreamgirls was being developed."What the public doesn't understand is that I actually created my role. I wasn't a girl-for-hire and someone said, 'Here's the script and here's the songs —your job starts tomorrow. I actually created that role," Holliday says in the interview. "Everything from the song "And I Am Telling You" to the end of the second act, I created. Effie was not in the second act at all. I fought for her to be there. I fought for her to come back strong. I fought for her to have more songs."Holliday says that she is coming forward now because she feels more optimistic and in control of her life for the first time in years having maintained her weight loss from her one-time 340 lbs. high and bounced back from a depression that once prompted her to attempt to take her own life with sleeping pills."I have suffered with clinical depression, so, to some people, I'm a bit of a recluse, but I do still sing," she tells Norville. "I was only a voice for so many years, not a person. But I do feel, for the first time, that I am a person and that I am more than a voice and somehow I do want to move forward." {Source}

At 11:14 AM,
I'm with Jennifer Holliday on this topic. I went to see "Chicago" when Usher was on and I went to see "Cats" before it got booted off Broadway. Brodway is the heart and soul of the acting industry. These Broadway actors sing, dance, and act all in one breath in ONE TAKE! Take that Hollywood! Broadway challenges a dancer and an actor. If you want to call yourself the best in dance and act then bring it on a Broadway stage.
Why didn't they include the Broadway actors in the film is what I want to know?!?! Things that make me go hmmm....
What happened to Jennifer holliday is what happened to a lot of broadway super stars when Hollywood chose other people to play in the movie version of the broadway stage.
Dumb dumb. There is only one Jennifer Holliday
