Truth or Rumor: Janet Jackson is leaving Virgin Records
Janet Jackson has been signed onto Virgin Records ever since her Control days. the release of her "Janet." album. Now rumor has it she's leaving Virgin Records. "We told you it was coming. An insider emailed MediaTakeOut.com that Janet Jackson will officially be leaving Virgin Records. Here's the full text of the email:
Virgin is selling the company. With that being said, every artist is being affected. This could take up to 2 months to a year. What does this mean? All of the funds/money is being frozen for everyone unless they pay for it out of their own pockets. Janet isn't going to be shooting a video for "With U", because it's just not looking possible.She still plans on touring, and tour rehearsals will start up soon. A re-release? That's looking unlikely too. Do you really want her to? Why re-release on a label that is showing no support on other formats besides Urban? It'll just be a way to make more money for Virgin, and it just wouldn't be smart to do at this point.The tour will go on as planned, and Janet will sign to another label. Janet doesn't need a single and/or an album to tour. Remember that. Once Janet gets re-signed (she's shopping around now), the tour will push forward. It won't take as long as you think. She needs label support to tour.Hope this didn't ruin anyone's day, but it's the reality of the situation." {

My verdict on this: Don't you hate snitches?!? Keep trying to hit Janet when ya'll think she's down! Whatever! Janet will be fine without/with Virgin Records. She's made her millions. She's busy preparing for her first tour in three years. And no Janet didn't tour for her past album, "Damita Jo."
Okay, I just wanted to point out some incorrect information in this article.
Janet had not been signed to Virgin since Control. Control & Rhythm Nation were both released by A&M Records. She was signed to, at the time, largest contract for a performer at Virgin (I think it was 30 for 2 records (Janet. & Design of a Decade)- but don't quote me on that one), for the release of Janet. Then she resigned with Virgin, again breaking the contract payment record, to a 4 record deal for 80 million, which 20YO fulfills that contract (Velvet Rope, All 4 You, Damita Jo & 20YO). This is why she's in the process of shopping for a new contract, cause this album fulfilled her contract.
Either way I love her, and it really wouldn't make sense for another company to support her 20YO Tour cause selling that album doesn't help them. As I understand it, artist make most of their money from touring, it's not a huge money maker for the Record companies except for the money from CD sales, not ticket sales.
Artist usually don't make tons of money from the album sales, I mean TLC went bankrupt after selling 10 million copies of Crazy, Sexy, Cool.
Anywho, LOVE YOU Janet!
thansk for the correction, robert :)
okay robert i hope you realize i'm backing janet's up! mediatakeout always puts up some crazy rumors about her. that's why i called this a rumor!
Janet leaving Virgin is interesting, another label could do wonders.
I wonder which label Janet will appear on. I say either Interscope or Geffen. MJB and Janet on the same record label would be hot!
