Kelly Rowland on charity work
Kelly Rowland spoke about her charity work. "Fame and a glamorous life as a successful singer have not made Kelly Rowland forget the needy. The singer is a member of the best selling female trio Destiny's Child.The R&B singer has been active in some social events and organizations, including in the Survivor Foundation, a charitable entity set up for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Her pleasant personality was very clear during an interview with The Jakarta Post before her concert at the newly renovated C.J.'s Bar, Hotel Mulia Senayan. "I definitely believe in giving back. The community has been so supportive toward Destiny's Child, individually as well as collectively. It is important to give something back," Kelly said. The Atlanta-born singer was scheduled to perform at the bar last month. However, news about an explosion at an American food outlet in East Jakarta prompted her management to postpone the concert. She said the news had made her a little bit nervous. But, she vowed to come at a time when it was safer. The public in Jakarta need wait no longer. Only a month after the cancellation, Kelly is ready to greet her fans here. "I'm excited to be here and playing here. This is my first visit to Jakarta. I want to see fans and look around the city," she said enthusiastically. Born on Feb. 11, 1981, Kelly tried her musical skill with groups before cofounding Destiny's Child in 1995. The group rose to fame in 1998 with the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit, No, No, No Part 2. At the 2005 World Music Awards, Destiny's Child were given the award for the biggest-selling girl group of all time with record sales of over 50 million. Asked about her feeling to be part of the best-selling female group, Kelly said that it was a dream comes true. "It's something that you cannot even fathom. It's definitely a blessing," she said. At a concert in Barcelona, Spain in June 2005, Kelly announced that the group was to go their separate ways. Commenting on the decision, she said that Destiny's Child has been around for a long time and the three personnel have different personal goals. "Beyonce (Knowles), Michelle (Williams) and myself support each other. We have given each other the time and space to grow," Kelly said, referring to the other members of Destiny's Child. After three days in Jakarta, Kelly flies to Singapore for another concert. Of course, this kind of mobility demands good stamina. Asked about her recipe for staying fit for a concert, Kelly who has won four Grammy Awards, three of which were with Destiny's Child and one as a solo singer, said she drank lots of water and took plenty of rest. "It's important to drink a lot of water. I also have to practice every day," she added. Despite news about the explosion, the beautiful singer said she would be back. "I'm excited to be here. It's beautiful. I loved the weather as soon as I stepped out of the plane. So, I will come back someday," she said." {Spotted @ KellyRowlandWeb}
