America Ferrera does 'LATINA' magazine
America Ferrera, star of 'Ugly Betty', graces the March cover issue of 'Latina' magazine.
America on how she got the role of Betty Suarez:
"Salma and I had run into each other once or twice at film festivals because I was doing the press for Real Woman Have Curves at the same time she was doing the press for Frida. She had seen Real Woman Have Curves, and when the idea of Ugly Betty came up, she thought of me. Her enthusiam about the project was so infectious-she spoke of it with such expectation. Everyone that was involved was really excited about the project. I really wanted to be a part of it."
America on the message she received after watch the original, Yo Soy Betty, la Fea:
"Betty. You just loved her because of her eternal optimism. She did not want to be pitied; she did not pity herself. Everything she took with a little sense of humor. She had dignity. She was like, "I know what people think I am, but I'm not going to let that stop me from being a happy person and having a happy life.' That's fun to watch. You want to root for somebody that does that for themselves."
America on how her family life is dramedy (drama/comedy):
"In reality, life isn't just a comedy or just a drama. IT's all of those things. I grew up in a very close-knit family-five sisters and a brother. You can fight and scream and yell and hate each other one minute, and the next minute you're family."

Elsewhere, America's co-stars of 'Ugly Betty' Ana Ortiz and Becki Newton attended the Costume Designer's Guild Awards.
Labels: America Ferrera, Ana Ortiz, Newsstand Snapshots, Out and About
I don't like America's cover but the spread is great. Good for her.
