Introducing Chanel Iman--Fashion's Fresh Face!
Chanel Iman modelled Marc by March Jacobs Fall/Winter 2007 at the London Fashion Week recently.
More about Chanel Iman as seen in the March 2007 issue of VIBE:
Supermodel Iman interviewed Chanel for VIBE in the lobby of New York's Mercer Hotel. (Chanel's Black and Korean.)
Iman: How did you get your name? Those are two major names.
Chanel Iman: My mom's favorite designer was Coco Chanel, and my older cousin is named Iman. He was named after a Somalian woma, so I hope I'm named after you! You're my favorite model.
Iman: Awww. So your life has changed 180 degrees. Isn't it glamorous? I mean, I know what it feels like. But how does it really feel to you?
Chanel Iman: I miss my family, but it's amazing. It's what I've always dreamed about. It feels really good to have girls looking up to me.
Iman: How tall are you?
Chanel Iman: Five-foot-ten.
Iman: How much do you weigh?
Chanel Iman: 110 pounds.
Iman: There's been talk in Spain that they won't allow certain models to go out on the runway because they're too skinny. And now we're hearing from the Council of Fashion Designers of America that there will be some weight criteria in the U.S as well. They want girls to understand the health issues. Do designers think you're too skinny?
Chanel Iman: Sometimes. But I'm very healthy. I eat everything in the world. I was always like, Oh I'm so skinny. But that's just who I am.
Iman: What do you consider beautiful?
Chanel Iman: A person who shows a lot of personality. It's how you carry yourself. You don't have to be the most beautiful girl to be the most beautiful girl.
Iman: When I became a model, nobody thought of me as great beauty-ever, ever, ever! My countrywomen are really beautiful. So when I became a top model, everybody was like, 'What?!'
Chanel Iman: Same here! Like, "You're so skinny. You're so this. You're so that." I was a tomboy.
Iman: So what's your signature move you do on every runway?
Chanel Iman: On the way back, I always wink at one person in the audience-give them a little of my personality.
