HOLLYWOOD — Oscar supporting actor hopefuls Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls), Adriana Barraza (Babel) and Jackie Earl Haley (Little Children) took their first turns as models Tuesday night on the Paramount backlot for General Motors' annual GM Ten celebrity fashion show.
Hudson spent the earlier part of her day rehearsing her Oscar number with fellow Dreamgirls Beyoncé Knowles and Anika Non-i Rose. "It went well; I'm so excited to be a Dreamgirl again," Hudson said. "I'm singing I Love You I Do."
Mary J. Blige was the first model to walk down the runway. She said she is shipping her Grammy awards back home to New Jersey. "I already picked out a place ahead of time," said Blige. "I've built a shelf with a glass door. Nothing too extravagant."
Might there be a Grammy in the future for fellow model Emmy Rossum? The Phantom of the Opera beauty said she is in the studio recording her first solo record for Geffen Records, due later this year. "I'm writing all the songs," said Rossum, describing her style as "ambient electronic pop."
In the audience were event regulars Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, and — seated separately — Moore's ex, Bruce Willis, with his and Demi's glammed-up daughter Rumer, 18.
On the runway, actor David Boreanaz performed a mini-striptease, tossing off his jacket and tie, while Haley snapped a photo of Kutcher and Moore with his camera phone. Haley has lined up his first post-nomination gig: working with Will Ferrell in the comedy Semi Pro.
Though too-cool Kutcher rarely clapped for anyone, Moore clapped enthusiastically when Heroes cast members Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Jack Coleman and Hayden Panettiere walked out on the runway alongside one of GM's futuristic concept models.
"I watched Project Runway enough to pull this off," said Oka, who also received modeling tips from Panettiere's fashion-conscious kid brother, Jansen.
Ventimiglia reacted to the incident last weekend in Australia, when banned substances were seized from the entourage of his Rocky Balboa dad, Sylvester Stallone.
"I talked to him right before he left," Ventimiglia said. "He was excited to go to Australia to promote Rocky and then head down to Thailand to begin work on Rambo 4. I gotta say, the guy's in peak shape and has been terribly kind to me."
Model Mario Lopez, who said the celebs are given free leases to drive GM cars, chimed in on the new Dancing With the Stars cast, which includes Paul McCartney's estranged wife, amputee Heather Mills: "I don't know. … It almost sounds like a bad joke."
