Critics gave Ashanti a hard time when she won a Lady of Soul Award years ago. The reason why? Her vocal capability but personally I think Ashanti carried this song quite well live.
On a side tip, am I the only Yankees fan? I'm rooting for them to come back stronger next season.

not trying to sound like Whitney is a good thing, I adore them both, but it is a real pleasure to hear another real sounding voice pleasing to the ear, and not trying to imitate someone else they come nowhere close to sounding like as we notice so many do. Ashanti offers something unique and not trying to be a copy of anyone, which is a good contrast away from the legendary Whitney Houston. it's even more a good thing, because Ashanti has the ability to establish her own artistic record. Ashanti rendition of God Bless America is a job well done. she nailed it for sure.
i understand what you're saying , but that's not what i meant . people would always claim that she couldn't sing because she doesn't have the voice like, whitney , mariah , or even celine. she definitely proved that she has a beautiful voice even though she doesn't sing like them . that's what i meant.
wow i am impressed with miss ashanti. i have never seen her sing live before . people have always said that she couldn't sing live . she's not whitney houston , but she sounded nice .
