TO BE COMPARED
Based upon the recent comments made by Kat DeLuna and Gabrielle Union, critics makes it more accessible to compare an established artist to a new one or vice versa.
Kat DeLuna remarked that folks compared her to Christina Milian and Rihanna.
"I guess because we're both Caribbean girls trying to make it. It doesn't bother me at all."
Gabrielle Union, who is often mistaken for Ashanti, Beyonce, and Brandy, made the decision to put the comparisons to a deaf ear.
"People have yelled at me, thinking I'm rude for not responding."
The media and blogosphere including my blog does this 'winning' move to familiarize an new artist to an established one.
Case in point, Leona Lewis already has been dubbed the next coming of Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. [UK R&B artist Jamelia even called Leona a "poor man's Mariah Carey".]
Is it safe to assume being compared is a form of flattery or an biting insult? To be fair, everyone is sort of place others up to be compared and contrast.
Thoughts...
