Is the film, "Step Up" the new "Save the Last Dance?"
2001's runaway hit, Save the Last Dance was the undisputed gritty hip-hop dance/love story of the year starring 10 Things I Hate About You star Julia Stiles and Barbershop-franchise star Sean Patrick Thomas. Fast forward to 2006 Hollywood has tapped into a genre previously overlooked upon until now. Honey, hip-hop dance film not only made a star out of Jessica Alba but help to give her some street cred. In theatres August 11, Step Up is all the rage. Starring Amanda Byrnes's (All That) boyfriend and Coach Carter star Channing Tatum and Justin Timberlake's old flame/former backup dancer Jenna Dewan, Step Up may easily become the Save the Last Dance-type summer movie. However is Hollywood paying ANY attention to this once saturated genre (anyone remembers Fame) ?!?!? Well music labels ARE! Before the film's August 11th premiere, the movie soundtrack features new music from Ciara, Sean Paul, Keyshia Cole, Chamillionaire, Young Joc, Kelis and Chris Brown.
