A Special Box Office Thursday: The 2006 Golden Globe Nominations
Rosario Dawson reads out the 2006 Golden Globe Nominations
This is a special box office Thursday edition for the 2006 Golden Globe Nominations. With each nomination/category I'll predict a winner.
"Actress Rosario Dawson announces the nominations for the Golden Globe Awards during a news conference in Beverly Hills, California December 14, 2006. The awards presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will be telecast live on January 15, 2007 from Beverly Hills. "{Source}

Nominees for the 64th annual Golden Globe Awards announced Thursday in Beverly Hills, Calif.:

MOTION PICTURES:

Picture, Drama: "Babel," "Bobby," "The Departed," "Little Children," "The Queen"
MY PREDICTION: If you've been reading all of my Box Office Thursday you'll know how much I appreciate the new Leonard DiCarpio movie, "The Departed." This movie should win but "Bobby" deserves it.
Actress, Drama: Penelope Cruz, "Volver"; Judi Dench, "Notes on a Scandal"; Maggie Gyllenhaal, "Sherrybaby"; Helen Mirren, "The Queen"; Kate Winslet, "Little Children"
MY PREDICTION: Penelope Cruz has consistenly did strong leading roles and she should get this win.
Actor, Drama:
Leonardo DiCaprio, "Blood Diamond"; Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Departed"; Peter O'Toole, "Venus"; Will Smith, "The Pursuit of Happyness"; Forest Whitaker, "The Last King of Scotland"
MY PREDICTION: This is a tough category to call. I hope Will Smith gets this win but give or take it'll be better him and Leonardo DiCarpio.
Picture, Musical or Comedy:
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," "The Devil Wears Prada," "Dreamgirls," "Little Miss Sunshine," "Thank You for Smoking"
MY PREDICTION: The hype behind "Dreamgirls" is unbelievable and Beyonce has a strong fan base. "Dreamgirls" deserves to win it but Borat may walk away as the surprise winner.
Actress, Musical or Comedy: Annette Bening, "Running With Scissors"; Toni Collette, "Little Miss Sunshine"; Beyonce Knowles, "Dreamgirls"; Meryl Streep, "The Devil Wears Prada"; Renee Zellweger, "Miss Potter"
MY PREDICITON: I would say Beyonce but Meryl Streep is a veteran actress who'll probably win.

Actor, Musical or Comedy: Sacha Baron Cohen, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan"; Johnny Depp, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"; Aaron Eckhart, "Thank You for Smoking"; Chiwetel Ejiofor, "Kinky Boots"; Will Ferrell, "Stranger than Fiction"
MY PREDICTION: The Golden Globes loves Johnny Depp but I want my fellow Nigerian Chiwetel to get this as the suprise winner. He did a great job in "Kinky Boots!"
Supporting Actress:
Adriana Barraza, "Babel"; Cate Blanchett, "Notes on a Scandal"; Emily Blunt, "The Devil Wears Prada"; Jennifer Hudson, "Dreamgirls"; Rinko Kikuchi, "Babel"
MY PREDICTION: Jennifer Hudson! Rosie and Oprah has given J-Hud their stamp of approval. Their opinion lately makes or breaks an celebrity--::coughs:: Tom Cruise & Kelly Ripa!

Supporting Actor: Ben Affleck, "Hollywoodland"; Eddie Murphy, "Dreamgirls"; Jack Nicholson, "The Departed"; Brad Pitt, "Babel"; Mark Wahlberg, "The Departed"
MY PREDICTION: It's been awhile since we seen Eddie win a Golden Globe. Eddie I'm rooting for you. But in reality Clint Eastwood and Jack Nicolson AND Entourage's executive producer Marky Mark all in the same category?!?! Not fair!
Director:
Clint Eastwood, "Flags of Our Fathers"; Clint Eastwood, "Letters from Iwo Jima"; Steven Frears, "The Queen"; Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, "Babel"; Martin Scorsese, "The Departed"
MY PREDICTION: From the looks of the many trailers I've seen on "Babel", Alejandro deserves this. But he's ip against Clint & Martin?!?! hold up Clint is competing against himself?!?!
Screenplay:
Guillermo Arriaga, "Babel"; Todd Field and Tom Perrotta, "Little Children"; Patrick Marber, "Notes on a Scandal"; William Monahan, "The Departed"; Peter Morgan, "The Queen"
MY PREDICTION: "The Departed" enough said!
Foreign Language: "Apocalypto," USA; "Letters from Iwo Jima," USA/Japan; "The Lives of Others," Germany; "Pan's Labyrinth," Mexico; "Volver" Spain
MY PREDICTION: The Lives of Others. The Japanese film industry keeps us on our toes.
Animated Film: "Cars," "Happy Feet," "Monster House"
MY PREDICTION: I thank my little brother for having an excuse to watch animated films, lol! "Cars" should get this. If you disagree go rent it!
Original Score: Alexandre Desplat, "The Painted Veil"; Clint Mansell, "The Fountain"; Gustavo Santaolalla, "Babel"; Carlo Siliotto, "Nomad"; Hans Zimmer, "The Da Vinci Code"
MY PREDICTION: Hans Zimmer is not the songwriter/composer to mess with.

"A Father's Way" from "The Pursuit of Happyness"; "Listen" from "Dreamgirls"; "Never Gonna Break My Faith" from "Bobby"; "The Song of the Heart" from "Happy Feet"; "Try Not to Remember" from "Home of the Brave"
If Beyonce doesn't win for Best Actress she should get this award for original song. Press play to watch "Listen"....

TELEVISION

Series, Drama: "24," Fox; "Big Love," HBO; "Grey's Anatomy," ABC; "Heroes," NBC; "Lost," ABC
MY PREDICTION: 'Grey's Anatomy'---this is the best ER-type show since "House." Speaking of which why is "House" NOT nominated?!!? WTF?!?

Actress, Drama: Patricia Arquette, "Medium"; Edie Falco, "The Sopranos"; Evangeline Lilly, "Lost"; Ellen Pompeo, "Grey's Anatomy"; Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer"
MY PREDICTION: I'm a "Grey's Anatomy" fan so I say Ellen Pompeo. She played the caught between two lovers role well.

Actor, Musical or Comedy:
Alec Baldwin, "30 Rock"; Zach Braff, "Scrubs"; Steve Carrell, "The Office"; Jason Lee, "My Name is Earl"; Tony Shalhoub, "Monk"
MY PREDICTION: I am disappointed that "Girlfriends" didn't get nominated so may the best winner win. To each their own I suppose. Steve Carrell should get this.
Miniseries or movie: "Bleak House," PBS; "Broken Trail," AMC; "Elizabeth I," HBO; "Mrs. Harris," HBO; "Prime Suspect: The Final Act," PBS
I can't speak on this since I didn't watch not one of these nominated miniseries.
Actress, Miniseries or Movie:
Gillian Anderson, "Bleak House"; Annette Bening, "Mrs. Harris"; Helen Mirren, "Elizabeth I"; Helen Mirren, "Prime Suspect: The Final Act"; Sophie Okonedo, "Tsunami, The Aftermath"

I'm sorry but nearly all your predictions are wrong!!. Penelope Cruz doesn't have a chance against Hellen Mirren; Do you REALLY prefer Beyonce rather than the marvelous Merlys Streep? Have you seen Forest Whitaker in "The Last King of Scotland"? I think your predictions are based only in your tastes but you must be more objective.

At 7:30 PM, Blogger Chi-Chi

I respect your opinion but those are my predictions. It's not like I'm on the voting board for the Golden Globes.
As much as I tried to be objective the Golden Globes are known for play the popular card every once in awhile
