Miss Chi Chi's Best of Box Office Thursday 2006
If you read my blog, you know each Thursday I'll post up a Box Office recap of the latest films to open up and what movie is a must-see. Here's the very best of box office thursday with a top 10. I even went to a movie premiere myself this year for the Nigerian film, "Slave Warrior." Above is me with the cast (Felix Nnorom, Bethels Agomuah, and Oliver Mbamara) in Brooklyn, New York City. Well enjoy reading this best of box office thursday 2006, Miss Chi Chi.

10. The Departed
Starring Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCarpio and Matt Damon, this movie had box office staying power until the rise of "Borat." I initially compared this film to othe thriller suspense films. see this movie as the potential spin-off to "Ocean's Twelve" but I can be wrong. You know how Hollywood like to copy an original until the point of no return. {ie. remember these films from yesteryears? Charlie's Angels: Blue Crush, XXX: The Bourne Identity, and so on!}
9. Bobby
The who's who in Hollywood appeared in this film like Demi Moore, Joy Bryant, Sharon Stone, Lindsay Lohan, Nick Cannon, and many others. Directed and written by Emilio Estevez "Bobby" became his pet project of the year. "Bobby" won kudos by Oprah Winfrey. This film opened up in limited release but it did good!
8. Happy Feet
Just when you thought "Cars" would become 2006's best animated film, "Happy Feet" comes along which stars the voices of Nicole Kidman and Brittany Murphy.
7. Casino Royale
The only surprise this new Bond film is giving the audience is the color of his hair! Bond in the past years have been a brunette but I guess this Bond is paying homage to Sean Connery. Wonder how Pierce Bronson feels about his replacement actor Daniel Craig.
6. Catch a Fire
Biopic +Derek Luke= money worthy guarantee! Luke gives the audience what they want to see on the big screen, thereotically speaking. According to Movies. Yahoo.com Catch a Fire is about, "A political thriller about an ordinary South African man (Derek Luke) who becomes a rebel fighter against apartheid." Derek stars opposite Hollywood favorite Tim Robbins. Africa seems to be the hot topic and spot for Hollywood today. This movie looks interesting and hope it portrays Africa in a new life. I'm kind of tired of the whole safari look Africa's been plagued with from Hollywoof filmmakers over the years. {coughs Indiana Jones, Ace Ventura, The Lion King, etc.}
5. DeJa Vu
The new Denzel Washington film is a can't miss! Denzel's acting gets better and better. I think he got cheated out of winning an Oscar twice for X and Cry Freedom. He did a much better job there than in "Training Day." Nevertheless if Denzel is not the reason why you're going to see this film go see it for the upcoming actress Mrs. Robin Thicke better known as Paula Patton. Paula is a actor to watch in 2007 if she choices her acting roles right. Watch out Gabrielle Union Paula's bringing the heat!
4. A Good Year
Soon after this film came out it quickly disappeared from the box office list. But Russell Crowe lands the number 4 spot with his new moview, "A Good Year" because he tapped into my hopelessly romantic side. {yes I know!} According to movies.yahoo.com, "A Good Year" is about, "Russell Crowe plays failing banker who inherits a vineyard, only to encounter a beautiful girl who has her own claim on the estate."
3. Blood Diamond
Djimonu and Leonardo at their acting best. Leonardo already proved himself with hits like "The Departed", "Titanic" and that "Mask" film. Djimonu went from video eye candy (Janet's "Love Will Never Do Without You music video) to respect actor. Did you happen to see Djimonu in "Gladiator" and "Amistad?" Leo and Dji are teaming up in this gritty eye opener, "Blood Diamond." The film already spark some controversary. Russell and his on and off wife Kimora Lee went on a fact finding trip on behalf of their surname diamond company. Read about Russell and Kimora's efforts [here]. Kanye West had a song, "Diamonds are Forever" discussing the vicious ways of Sierra Leone diamond trade.
2. Borat
This became 2006's "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" Sasha Baron Cohen had this charm that carried the weight of this politically-incorrect film. Catch him in "Madagascar."
1. Dreamgirls
This movie has truly lived up to its hype and Jennifer Hudson became the most talked about actress in the film leaving big time actors Eddie Murphy, Beyonce Knowles, and Jamie Foxx in the dust. Besides it's been awhile since we all saw a African American ensemble film.
Stay tune for odd celebrity pairing of 2006!
