Andre 3000 and Usher made a career mistake?
Panache Report asks this question: Andre3000 and Usher made a career mistake? Yeah Usher was up for "Dreamgirls" but he made it onto Broadway's 'Chicago' instead. Andre3000 got focused and appeared in "Idewild." Both artists have success in their own right. Usher's one step ahead of getting a possible Tony Award nomination and Andre may just pick up a Best Original Song from the Oscars for his work on "Idewild." Time will only tell. "Hollywood Blunders: Usher and Andre 3000 may want to fire their advisors. Usher turned down a part in "Dreamgirls," when negotiations stalled. Usher should have followed Jamie Foxx's lead. Foxx was allegedly reluctant to star in "Dreamgirls," because he would have to take a pay cut but when he read the script and realized who his co-stars were, he allegedly had a change of heart and signed on the dotted line. "Dreamgirls," would have been a big boost for Usher's career. It's rare in Hollywood for a black project of this caliber to come along, sometimes you have to let go of your pride and your ego. Andre 3000 turned down a role in "Dreamgirls," because he feared he would be typecast. He had just finished filming the box office flop "Idlewood," and he didn't want to be typecast in regard to musicals. He picked the wrong musical to star in because "Idlewood," lasted a weekend at the box office. Whereas "Dreamgirls," will have more staying power and might become the biggest grossing black film of all-time." {Source}
