MS. KELLY'S FIRST WEEK SALES PLUS HER ALBUM RELEASE PARTY
Kelly Rowland's first week sales of her current album, "Ms. Kelly" has sold 80K copies while her debut record, "Simply Deep" has sold 70K in its first week. To date, "Simply Deep" has sold 1.5 million copies.
"Ms. Kelly" is a success in comparison to "Simply Deep."
So would these sales finally push Kelly to get the right management and A&R for her NEXT album release?! Do keep in mind Kelly has built not only a family with the Knowles but with a successful business. Kelly is also Beyonce's closest/best friend who in more ways is Kelly's ideal competition. So is Kelly just 'comfortable' with riding with Destiny's Child for the longest that she simply doesn't want to put MORE ummph into her own solo career? {Contrary to this claim, Kelly has been on her grind lately promoting this album. Dare I say this is the most promotion in comparison to "Simply Deep?!"}
Check out Beyonce in a white iron-on tee-shirt at Kelly's album release party:
Now if these two are not just friends but each other's biggest supporters!
Sam of "That Grape Juice" realized an interesting claim:
According to industry sources, Matthew Knowles and Music World, stepped in when they realised the label weren’t handling the project as it should - hence the recent increased presence of Kelly on TV, radio and magazines. Therefore, accusations of Matthew trying to sabotage the project etc are unfounded.
One reader of Urban-Hoopla also raised another interesting claim:
Licia: don't want people to pressure her to be better than beyonce i want people to make her realize that she can be better than beyonce. she still hasn't realized just how much talent she has. she doesn't deserve to be in the background . she just released a great album that getting so little promotion and it deserves much more . she can't keep sitting back and accepting this. i am glad that she is going to tour though because that's where alot of her money will come from.
Has having Beyonce in the R&B/pop business making historical changes alter our preception of just about any and every R&B female artist?! Has Beyonce set the bar so high? In paper yes. From breaking out of Destiny's Child to win 5 Grammy's to later breaking historical molds for African American women in music (she was on the cover of SI swimsuit) to dating hip-hop mogul Jay-Z for a record 5 years (that's as long as Bobby and Whitney being together nowadays.)
Kelly on "The View" performing "Like This":
Listening to "Ms. Kelly" one can see she has grew up a whole lot from her Destiny's Child/Simply Deep era. In just about every promo shot of Kelly she seems at ease with herself and she always dressed the part. Time again and again YOU have complimented on Kelly's fashion sense. So I predict "Ms. Kelly" would steadily climb up the charts (as of yet it's #6) with the release of "Comeback" and other singles.
So who's to blame for "Ms. Kelly" not performing well?! Label, A&R, management, being Beyonce's best friend?! Kelly's going to catach a break quite soon.
