MYA AND DC3 ARE FREE
MYA AND DC3 ARE FREE

Contemporary R&B artists Mýa and Destiny's Child both recorded the same song title "Free" at different times of their careers. I thought I'll re-visit this idea of songs that have the same title. [Thanks for the inspiration, Soul Bounce.] Do keep in mind, there are a million and one songs which YOUTUBE.COM can vouch for.

The soulful "Free" by Destiny's Child appeared on the trio's final studio effort, "Destiny Fulfilled" which was released back in 2004. Mýa recorded her pop-friendly hit "Free" for her sophomore disc, "Fear of Flying".

Who did a better job of being " free" - Mýa or Destiny's Child?

BEST REMIXES IN '07
In no particular order, here are a handful of the year's best remixes.

50 Cent-"I Get Money" Forbes Remix featuring Diddy and Jay-Z

"I Get Money" became the club banger and anthem for many so when Diddy and Jay-Z jump on the Forbes remix this song quickly become one of hip-hop's hottest collaborations. As Funkmaster Flex said it best "I Get Money" is "one of the hottest records out."

Alicia Keys-"No One" remix featuring Junior Reid, Chaka Demus, and Beenie Man

When "No One" blasted on the radio, fans and critics were between-do we like it or hate it? So when Alicia introduced the reggae-inspired remix at 2007 American Music Awards, some critics felt her 'raspy' vocals match the upbeat melody better.

Rihanna-"Umbrella" remix featuring Chris Brown.

Word circulated on the blogs and online that Chris Brown loved "Umbrella" so much that he did a remix at one of his concert stops which he later re-named "Cinderella". Shortly after, the remix was played on national radio. Rihanna return the favor at the 2007 VMAs for their joint melody of "Umbrella".

Ne-Yo-"Do You" remix featuring Mary J Blige

"Do You" follow-up to his smash, "Because of You" and Mary J did her thing on the vocals. Although the vocals were recorded separately, the harmonies blended perfectly. You however prefer the original...and the shirt Ne-Yo has on in the video.

R. Kelly-"I'm A Flirt" featuring T.I and T-Pain

When this song came on, folks claimed "I'm A Flirt" is Bow Wow's song and that R. Kelly took it as his own. Bow Wow even performed the song solo at one of his concert gigs.

Justin Timberlake-"Until the End of Time" featuring Beyonce Knowles

When time came to release the Grammy Award-winning disc, "Future Sex/Love Sounds",Beyonce remixed Justin Timberlake's "Until the End of Time". A few of you argued over whether the original is better than the remix.

Kanye West-"Throw Some D's" remix

Kanye West took Rich Boy's smash, "Throw Some D's" and make the song his own while name dropping Britney Spears, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Angela Bassett, Alicia Keys, and Halle Berry.

Omarion-"Icebox" remix featuring Usher

Omarion took to his official myspace page to leak the remix of "Icebox". The video clip showed Omarion and Usher recording the remix in the studio.

Avril Lavigne-"Girlfriend" remix featuring Lil' Mama

Lil' Mama bought to 2007 catchy hooks (Lip Gloss, anyone) so she bought her same upbeat energy to the remix of Avril's "Girlfriend".

Musiq-"Buddy" remix featuring Fat Joe and Ja Rule

Fat Joe and Ja Rule team up on the remix of Musiq's "Buddy". The twosome made this song from the type of song a guy may sing to a girl to a bona-fide club hit.

Beyonce Knowles-"Get Me Bodied" remix with Solange, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland

When Beyonce, her sister Solange, and her Destiny's Child counterparts (Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland) at this year's BET Awards, it was easy to see why this was one of the best dance anthems from 2007. "Get Me Bodied" was featuring on the B'Day Video Anthology DVD- a new trend 2008 may reproduced.

This list however doesn't top upon the many great remixes so I ask YOU which were your favorites that weren't mentioned?

CIARA PAYS TRIBUTE TO DIANA ROSS

Yesterday the Kennedy Center Honors came on, all eyes were position on R&B songbird Ciara who paid tribute to Diana Ross via live performances of Ross' hits, "I'm Coming Out" and "Upside Down".

Diana Ross and the Supremes paved the way for many contemporary acts past and present. So I decided to highlight these said singers paying tribute to Diana Ross.

Beyonce-"I'm Coming Out"

Destiny's Child-"Say My Name"/"Upside Down"

Mariah Carey, Faith Hil-"Ain't No Mountain High Enough"

THE HOOPLA WITH CIARA, SOLANGE, AND DESTINY'S CHILD
Ciara took a break from her tour with Rihanna to party at Club Crystal alongside Solange Knowles last night.

In a recent interview with the Daily Star, R&B vocalist Kelly Rowland hinted at a Destiny's Child reunion for 2008.

Destiny's Child at Destiny Fulfilled and Loving It Tour after party

This current spate of reunions has given us ideas. Despite what people say we are all still really close. A couple of weeks ago Beyonce did a show in LA and asked me and Michelle to join her on stage for Survivor. The emotion was incredible and it felt so good to be back up there with the girls again. It was magical. I'd definitely like to do more stuff like that.

FARRAH FRANKLIN IS A SINGLE BLACK FEMALE

Former Destiny's Child member Farrah Franklin is working hard for a tangible career in the entertainment business. A new movie trailer surfaced online called, "Single Black Female" which stars Tony Rock, Slim Thugg and Farrah. Destiny's Child fame got Farrah to star in the "Say My Name" and "Jumpin' Jumpin'" videos before she quickly exit the R&B female group. With all this said and done, why is LaTavia Robertson taking long to come out with a project??!

LETOYA VS FARRAH: RUMOR IS NOT TRUE!

-Farrah Franklin, LeToya Luckett and DeShawn Stevenson-

LeToya Luckett broke out on her own to release a #1 R&B album, "LeToya", a candid BET reality series, "H-Town Chick" and a successful boutique "Lady Elle Boutique" based in Houston, Texas. So I caught this tidbit while watching "The Black Carpet" on BET, I was shock at what the gossip.

Apparently Farrah Franklin, former member of Destiny's Child, made some illicit moves on LeToya's former husband-to-be, DeShawn Stevenson.

And apparently this rumor is all types of false! Entitled "Dissed by Destiny twice" is a classic example of how the gossip mill is just trying to rebuild that whole Destiny's Child drama from years ago. Thanks LeToyaOnline for the video! During an interview at Hip-Hop Summit, LeToya recently said to expect a mixture of ballads and up tempos on her forthcoming record.

ALL EYES ON DESTINY'S CHILD

Destiny's Child reunited briefly two days before at the Staples Center in L.A for "The Beyonce Experience":

Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined Beyonce to wrap up their hit, "Survivor" before they serenaded her with a happy birthday rendition.

Of course, her man Jay-Z was on hand for "Upgrade U."

The L.A stop of "The Beyonce Experience" is said to be for her live DVD taping. Beyonce actually turns 26 TODAY. Niice.

Are you anticipating Destiny's Child to comeback just yet?

Destiny's Child wore a floor-length verison in black, blue and green that House of Dereon designer Tina Knowles most likely designed at the 2001 BET Awards.

SAME SONG: SAIL ON

Introducing a new category to Urban-Hoopla---SAME SONG. Premise? An oldie remixed. Do keep in mind this idea is to reflect how music gets remixed for the next generation to appreciate. To jumpstart this idea, here is "Sail On" as recorded by the Commodores AND Destiny's Child.

OLDIE
Commodores-"Sail On"

With Lionel Richie on lead vocals, this is a classic Commodores hit from 1979. Lionel penned the inspirational ballad which was featured on the Commodores album, "Midnight Magic."

OLDIE REMIXED:
Destiny's Child-"Sail On." (LIVE)

Destiny's Child with its original line-up Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett sang this classic Commodores at Motown Live. Destiny's Child also recorded the song for their self-titled album back in 1998. Beyonce and Kelly primiarly sang lead up until LeToya and LaTavia's vocals supported the chorus.

Like this idea? Send in your same song of choice over to chiblog2106@yahoo.com. Be sure to put SAME SONG in the subject line.

DESTINY'S CHILD TO REUNITE

Mathew Knowles ignited talks of a Destiny's Child reunion during a recent radio interview. Knowles also hinted at daughter Solange joining the line-up to make the group a quartet.
Click here to listen yourself. Matthew: "But she's (Beyonce) a hard troop and all of the Destiny's Child ladies are. I'm proud of her and all of the ladies. I'm using this word "Destiny's Child" cause that could be the day so Destiny's Child album is coming soon. I don't know, did I just said it?"
Things that make me go hmm...

In related Destiny's Child news, Michelle Williams (the ever business savvy girl) relaxed in a black House of Dereon top at Kanye West’s live performance at the Underground’s Summer VIP party in Chicago.

The guy next to her seems so interested in Michelle flipping her hair. possible pick-up:: "Michelle, can you handle this?!" All jokes aside, the guy's actually Michelle's man, Billy Dec:

Earlier this week, Beyonce dropped by MiTRL at MTV Studios in Times Square, New York:

Beyonce's currently in the Big Apple for her tour, "The Beyonce Experience" which has Robin Thicke as the opening act.

Kelly Rowland did her thing on the "Early Show" in Dallas. Kelly performed her hits ("Like This" and "Dilemma") as well as a classic Destiny's Child groove-"No, No, No":

A song she recorded for the Destiny Fulfilled album, "Bad Habit"

Her new single, "Comeback":

Word is she already filmed the video treatment to two singles off "Ms. Kelly." She also confirmed via a radio interview that "Ghetto" featuring Snoop is the third single.
Check out the rest over at Toya's World.

Modeling is something Kelly should seriously look into. Why can't Nelly hook her up with an Apple Bottoms contract?!? I''m just saying....[source via source via source]

BEYONCE AND MICHELLE SLIPS
Way back when Destiny's Child were together on tour in support of their last joint project, "Destiny Fulfilled', Beyonce slipped during a live rendition of "Crazy in Love":

And she keeps it moving.

Michelle was another DC member that slipped. This time Michelle fell right as she, Kelly, and Beyonce rock to the beat of "Lose My Breath" on BET's 106 & Park:

Michelle also kept it moving.

Here's a parody MADTV did on the visual concept of "Emotions" music video:

Hilarious, isn't it?

Finally here's a complitation of Destiny's Child bloopers from the days Farrah and Michelle joined the group:

Funny, huh?

NEW MUSIC FROM KELLY PLUS GET ME BODIED CAPTURES

Check out this dope track from Kelly Rowland called, "Tell Me." [LISTEN]

In related music news, Kelly is apparently shooting the "Comeback" video on July 19-20 and is looking for a male "The Game" looking to be featured in her video.

Kelly hit up the "Mike & Juliet" Morning Show:

And here are some few captures of Kelly kicking it with Solange and her Destiny's Child band mates Beyonce and Michelle in between scenes of "Get Me Bodied":

Kelly Ro has most definitely earned the "Ms" before her name. She should really launch that perfume line that she wants to do and put herself as her fragrance face in the print AD campaigns.
Thanks Celine!

MS. KELLY'S FIRST WEEK SALES PLUS HER ALBUM RELEASE PARTY

Kelly Rowland's first week sales of her current album, "Ms. Kelly" has sold 80K copies while her debut record, "Simply Deep" has sold 70K in its first week. To date, "Simply Deep" has sold 1.5 million copies.

"Ms. Kelly" is a success in comparison to "Simply Deep."

-Kelly at her album release party in NYC-

So would these sales finally push Kelly to get the right management and A&R for her NEXT album release?! Do keep in mind Kelly has built not only a family with the Knowles but with a successful business. Kelly is also Beyonce's closest/best friend who in more ways is Kelly's ideal competition. So is Kelly just 'comfortable' with riding with Destiny's Child for the longest that she simply doesn't want to put MORE ummph into her own solo career? {Contrary to this claim, Kelly has been on her grind lately promoting this album. Dare I say this is the most promotion in comparison to "Simply Deep?!"}

Check out Beyonce in a white iron-on tee-shirt at Kelly's album release party:

Now if these two are not just friends but each other's biggest supporters!

Sam of "That Grape Juice" realized an interesting claim:

According to industry sources, Matthew Knowles and Music World, stepped in when they realised the label weren’t handling the project as it should - hence the recent increased presence of Kelly on TV, radio and magazines. Therefore, accusations of Matthew trying to sabotage the project etc are unfounded.

-Michelle at Kelly's album release party in NYC-

One reader of Urban-Hoopla also raised another interesting claim:

Licia: don't want people to pressure her to be better than beyonce i want people to make her realize that she can be better than beyonce. she still hasn't realized just how much talent she has. she doesn't deserve to be in the background . she just released a great album that getting so little promotion and it deserves much more . she can't keep sitting back and accepting this. i am glad that she is going to tour though because that's where alot of her money will come from.

Has having Beyonce in the R&B/pop business making historical changes alter our preception of just about any and every R&B female artist?! Has Beyonce set the bar so high? In paper yes. From breaking out of Destiny's Child to win 5 Grammy's to later breaking historical molds for African American women in music (she was on the cover of SI swimsuit) to dating hip-hop mogul Jay-Z for a record 5 years (that's as long as Bobby and Whitney being together nowadays.)

Kelly on "The View" performing "Like This":

Listening to "Ms. Kelly" one can see she has grew up a whole lot from her Destiny's Child/Simply Deep era. In just about every promo shot of Kelly she seems at ease with herself and she always dressed the part. Time again and again YOU have complimented on Kelly's fashion sense. So I predict "Ms. Kelly" would steadily climb up the charts (as of yet it's #6) with the release of "Comeback" and other singles.

So who's to blame for "Ms. Kelly" not performing well?! Label, A&R, management, being Beyonce's best friend?! Kelly's going to catach a break quite soon.

Urban-Hoopla's weekly re-run!
Urban-Hoopla's weekly re-run!
April is almost wrapped up and this week bought out another new couple sighting.
Mila J and Marques Houston's personal video blog that taps into their private relationship was leaked online:

[View Mila J and MH's video blog here.]
Meagan Good and her new man were spotted at a popular night spot...

Folks I guess those Page Six rumors were quite true. Actress Meagan Good is in fact seeing the NFLer Thomas Jones I report on. Check the pair out this Thursday night at hot night spot, Canal Room:

Rihanna denied she and Omarion are thisclose:

Rih Rih quickly moved on from her backup dancer/"Unfaithful" video boo Anthony Burrell:

*See why Miss Fenty did this move by clicking on the image above.

The fashion game this week was quite competitive.
Beyonce was the queen of changing up her style this past week.

Rocking a beret at the Knicks game:

She sat alongside friends Kimora Lee Simmons and Tyra Banks....which meant little one on one time with her man Jay-Z.

Wearing neon-red lipstick outside a popular NYC eatery:

Sporting bangs in Australia:

First the red lipstick at the Knicks game and now a hair change, is Sasha making a comeback!? She's still rocking that House of Dereon bag that's NOT up on the official shopping site anymore!

You all went crazy over this particular Which look is on lock edition between Beyonce and Tameka Foster:

Beyonce vs. Tameka: prada bag

Kelis and Paula Patton were spotted in similar styled Gucci mini:

which look is on lock--kelis or paula patton

Amerie came out of hiding:

Yeah that's her man Lenny Richardson right behind her. I'm adding her Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress to my summer shopping list. Damn that Macy's for having a one day sale while I came in to pay my damn bill, lol!

She's been in London recording her follow-up to "Touch" which I feel was overshadowed by the massive success of "1 Thing." That album is in my opinion Amerie's best. She co-wrote a bulk of the album and I'm a tad bit upset that the Carl Thomas duet didn't come out as single.

Halle Berry showed us a side of her we all haven't seen since "Monster's Ball":

But Gabriel gets to see it each and every night.

She was busy trying to thwart a potential beat up between her man Gabriel Aubry and the paparazzi.

I'll leave you all with these fun caption this pictures:

CAPTION THIS

Kimora: Girl, if you ain't have Jay, I would be all up on that nigga :)"
