Lauryn Hill and four of her five children (Zion, Joshua, John and Selah) attended a Martha Stewart event at Williams Sonoma in New Jersey. Doesn't her little girl look just like Lauryn?? August 2008 was the tenth year anniversary of her breakthrough/critically-acclaimed debut, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." And to think I just had on "Nothing Ever Matters" on my iPOD moments ago.
Her husband Rohan Marley has since said to "People" magazine that Lauryn has been busy writing new material for a possible new album. And I quote: “She writes it in the mirror if the mirror smokes up. She writes constantly. This woman does not sleep." Rohan went on to state that Lauryn also has her focus on her children. "She loves [suburban life], being with her children, seeing them grow and instilling our teachings of righteousness to them," the 36-year old former college football player explained. "[She does] what regular people do: She cooks, shops, goes to restaurants, regular things ... She became more in tune with the earth."
One of the few female artists to obtain five Grammy's Lauryn Hill shocked plenty fans in her off the wall get-up. Between the hair and make-up, fans are amazed at 180 change from "Doo Woop" days Lauryn is best known for? So is Wyclef, The Fugees, her own children and her man Rohan Marley behind Lauryn's odd demeanor?!? Things that make me go hmm....
Okay I had to put this actress on blast for having the boldness to rock this hot mess of a dress at the Cannes Film Festival:
French actress Firmine Richard arrives for the screening of the film "Zodiac," at the 60th International film festival in Cannes, southern France, on Thursday, May 17, 2007.
[pic source] Overheard Hoopla: 1. Contrary to the rumors out there, Andre Benjamin of Outkast is NOT dating Buckeey from "Flavor of Love 2", folks! (I was beginning to wonder how Andre went from the dating the likes of R&B singers Eryah Badu and Keisha Spivey to a reality-TV star.} [A Hot Mess] 2. Speaking of R&B do we really need another R&B male group? Well Tank, Tyrese and Ginuwine think so. TGT will be the name of this supergroup. Word has it these guys are teaming up to produce the ultimate male R&B group since LSG. Be expected to hear a remix to Tank's Please Don't Go with Tyrese and Ginuwine. (I'm just excited to learn Ginuwine's coming back to music.) [MTV News] 3. Alongside soul legend Patti LaBelle, R&B singer Ciara will be starring in her fist lead role on the big screen. [SOHH] 4. The Fugees breaks up once again due to Lauryn Hill according to Pras: “You know, unfortunately Miss Hill, she got some things she needs to deal with. I wish her the best, but life goes on.” Okay time for me to pop in my jacked up copy of "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" to hold me over until the Fugees come back again. DAMN!
Speaking of which, T.I and 50 Cent respond to the recent attacks on the hip-hop community at the BET Awards nomination conference:
New Music Hoopla: RAP-UP.COM has released three new bangers for the summer. Word is that Justin Timberlake's next single, "Til The End of Time." If this much is true then Power 105.1 and WBLS is showing this new JT song much love. Supposedly "Summer Love" is JT's official song. I prefer "Til The End of Time" though. I was hoping JT will drop the song he did with Three Six Mafia instead. And here are the three new tracks you simply have to listen to: 1. New Music from Gwen Stefani f/ Damian Marley: "Now That You Got It" (Marley Mic Remix) Swizz Beatz produced Gwen's third single off her "The Sweet Escape." [LISTEN]
2. Lauryn Hill has returned back to the music scene with a new pop sound. Lauryn recorded "Lose Myself" for the soundtrack, "Surf's Up." [LISTEN]
3. Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" remix features Jay-Z and Pharoahe Monch. [LISTEN] Keeping in mind the song title, Jay's hook mentions Nicole Richie, Whitney Houston and Anna Nicole.
Lauryn Hill, five-time Grammy winner, is on the cover of 'URB' magazine. Lauryn Hill by the numbers: "At age 13, Hill performs at the Apollo's legendary Amateur Night. At Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, Hill's a brainy cheerleader who gets approached by Prakazrel "Pras" Michel, who wants her to join a music group he's forming, The Refugee Camp. Soon after, she meets Pras's cousin, a Haitian immigrant, Wyclef Jean.
In 1991, while still in high school, she plays a runaway teen on the soap As The World Turns, bringing realism and heart to a write-off secondary character.
She gets accepted to Columbia University in New York and attends for one year.
In 1994, The Fugees' first album, Blunted on Reality, is released and falls short of expectations.
The follow-up, 1996's The Score, lives up to its name, thrusting the group into classic-album territory.
In 1996, she founds the Refugee Project, an outreach organization that supports a two-week overnight camp for at-risk youth. She's also heralded for supporting well-building projects in Kenya and Uganda, as well as for staging a rap concert in Harlem to promote voter registration.
In 1997, she has her first child with Rohan Marley.
She releases her solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, in 1998, and it goes diamond.
In 2001, she appears on an episode of MTV Unplugged; the corresponding album barely goes gold.
On December 13, 2003, Hill plays a Christmas benefit concert at the Vatican, denouncing "corruption, exploitation, and abuses."
The Fugees reunite to perform September 18, 2004, at Dave Chappelle's Block Party.
Hill makes her last big public appearance February 6, 2006, at the corner of Hollywood and Vine boulevards."
