Anika Noni Rose secured the covted lead role in Disney's animated film, "The Princess & The Frog." According to E Online, the film will be on the 19-year-old heroine's (re: Princess Tiana) life in New Orleans. The film wouldn't be released until Christmas 2009 but in the meantime, check out the just-released trailer...
Anyone curious as to why it took until 2009 for Disney to have their first ever African-American princess??? I'm glad Disney changed the title character from Maddy to Tiana. At least we know Anika's ecstatic!
Melyssa Ford, Alesha Renee, Rosci, Charli Baltimore, Fontzworth Bentley, Q-Tip, Fabolous, DJ Clue, and Terrence J celebrated "XXL" magazine's editor-in-chief Datwon Thomas' 33rd birthday at the Hennessy Suite last night in NYC.
Terrence J and Rosci certainly make a point of going to event together, huh? Anyhow, isn't it great that Q-Tip was the event's DJ? I cannot wait to hear what he did on Solange's sophomore album. Charli Baltimore has finally come of hiding...and speaking of which, am I the only one loving her verse on "Down 4 U"?! I do love Melyssa's Gucci bag...
Terrence Howard, Phylicia Rashad and Anika Noni Rose of Broadway's "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" received caricatures at Sardi's on Thursday.
Sardi's will honor the award-winning trio of actors who portray, respectively, Brick, Big Mama and Maggie, at 5 PM. Cat's Big Daddy – James Earl Jones – is among the noted theatre celebrities to already grace the walls of the famed venue. [PLAYBILL]
So do you think the caricatures look anything like Anika, Phylicia, and Terrence???
Debbie Allen, who serves as the play's director, bought together this all-star cast to the famed theatrical district. The play's producer Stephen Byrd revealed the role of Brick was pass on by Denzel Washington and Laurence Fishbourne.
Last month Anika revealed to The New York Times her first impression of Terrence and in the "Uptown" interview she shares her thoughts on working with the cast members.
"It can get a little hot during rehearsals sometimes," actress Anika Noni Rose says with a laugh, referring to the all-star cast sharing the stage in a a revival of Tennesse Williams's classic, "Cat on A Hot Tin Roof". The ensemble includes Terrence Howard (Brick); James Earl Jones (Big Daddy); Phylicia Rashad (Big Mama); and Rose as Maggie, the metaphorical Cat.
If you're within the New York area, go out to see "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof". Be sure to pick up a copy of "Uptown" magazine which is on newsstands now!
Thandie Newton attended the L.A premiere of her comedy film, "Run Fat Boy, Run" in a pink frilly dress. Thandie recently admitted on "The View" that she pulled practical jokes on her co-stars in between filming the "Friends" star David Schwimmer's directorial debut.
The first practical joke involved a candy bar smeared around to look like a bad bathroom accident in Pegg's trailer. When Pegg pretended it didn't happen, Newton snuck into his trailer and sewed together the ends of the sleeves of his sweater and the neck of his T-shirt. Still no response from Pegg. "He'd never react," Newton says. "He knew I was watching." [NY DAILY NEWS]
Anika Noni Rose recently sat down with The New York Times to talk about her return to Broadway via the historical African-American cast play, "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof".
Anika established a name for herself on Broadway back in 2004 when she won a Tony Award for "Caroline, or Change".
The best moment of Anika's interview was when she talked about her first impression of her "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" co-star, Terrence Howard.
Ms. Rose had first noticed the actor playing a womanizer in the film “The Best Man.” Slapping the table, she said: “You knew he had something dirty. I told him that in rehearsal. He had the stank and the sexy at the same time.”
In related news, Anika's book-to-film adaptation "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" and its thirteen episodes got picked up by HBO. The film, which co-stars Jill Scott, is based off the Alexander McCall Smith best-selling novel.
"Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" had its Broadway opening night last night in New York City. The play's stars James Earl Jones, Boris Kodjoe, Terrence Howard, Anika Noni Rose, Debbie Allen, and Phylicia Rashad were all in attendance.
The cast recently sat down with Vanity Fair to express their thoughts on turning Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning story to a Broadway play:
My favorite line is: ‘Mendacity is a system that we live in,’ ” says Terrence Howard, who is making his Broadway debut. Howard, who earned an Academy Award nomination as best actor for Hustle and Flow, plays the tormented Brick—a major challenge, he admits. “He’s got so many things he’s hiding from,” Howard says. As Maggie, Anika Noni Rose brings the requisite va-va-voom factor to the role of Brick’s desperate, frustrated wife—the proverbial cat on a hot tin roof. “This play is so intense,” says Rose, who won a Tony Award for her performance in Caroline, or Change. “It’s like a hurricane stuck in a room. It never lets up.” [READ MORE...]
Anika Noni Rose and Terrence Howard look cozy together when they attended the photocall of their Broadway play, "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" yesterday in New York City.
Sisters Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen are also in the play as well as James Earl Jones.
Should you and I give it a week or so before the just friends duo Terrence and Anika are hook-up in the press?
Do keep in mind, famous folks that held hands automatically raise a red flag for the gossip mills.
Remember how Terrence and Naomi Campbell were just friends too? Exactly.
