HOOPLA: DANITY KANE SPLIT CONFIRMED + AALIYAH MOVIE UPDATE
Dawn Richard confirmed the Danity Kane split recently to MTV News. Aubrey O'Day went on to do a Playboy editorial while D. Woods has a girl group. Shannon Bex and Aundrea Fimbres are the only two remaining members. However, Shannon would NOT be seen in the upcoming season of "Making The Band." Best luck to Dawn!

As of right now, [Danity Kane doesn't exist]," Dawn Richard told MTV News on Wednesday (January 28). "It's devastating for me."

"You'll see me and Drea [Aundrea Fimbres] try and pick up the pieces on our own [on this season's show] — pieces that we didn't even make," she continued. "We didn't even break it and we're trying to sweep it up ourselves. Puff invited all the girls to come back on this season and they chose not to. Only two of us showed up. That's fine if that's the choice.[MTV NEWS]

Director Bill Condon best known for Dreamgirls opened up about the upcoming Aaliyah biopic. Condon has said to expect the film to mirror the succes of Selena - (Jennifer Lopez's claim to fame). Canadian-singer Keshia Chante has since release a statement confirming that she'll play Aaliyah.

"Aaliyah inspired me and an entire generation," Keshia Chante said in a statement. "She was stunning, effortless and was capable of so many things. This is a hard undertaking, I have big shoes to fill but I am committed, determined and will train to the very end to master this role. I want Aaliyah's fans and admirers to be proud of this film and feel like it was the best interpretation possible of our babygirl. I refuse to disappoint." [BET News]
Well said, Keshia! A Roc-a-Fella music producer Choke No Joke (seriously??) has come out with a blind item about the rift behind Jay-Z and Dame Dash.

"Both Jay and Dame was involved with a certain R&B singer, who I'm not gonna say her name out of respect 'cause she ain't around to defend herself, but I believe that was a part of the initial friction. I was seeing Jay with her back around 2000, then Dame was with her after. All you have to do is look at the movie they did, Death of a Dynasty. In the movie they were fighting over a model. In real life she was a model, but singing is what she was known for first."[Hip Hop Weekly/Rhymes With Snitch]

There's 3 sides to every story with the truth somewhere in between. (Only Aaliyah, Dame and Jay-Z know the real deal.) Speaking of which, check out these photos of Aaliyah, Dame, and Jay-Z at a party in the Hamptons over at Rhymes With Snitch. Oh let the drama begin...

POLOW DA DON & CIARA - THE NEW TIMBALAND & AALIYAH??!
Music producer/hitmaker Polow Da Don compared his working relationship with Ciara to Timbaland and the late Aaliyah in a recent interview with MTV. Polow just produced the official single, "Never Ever" off Ciara's upcoming third album Fantasy Ride.

Photos: Getty & D. Blanks

"We both came up and were raised in the same camp," Polow explained to MTV News. "We've known each other for a long time. We actually just have this natural chemistry that I don't even have with some of my own artists. I understand her and I understand what she should be doing," the producer added. "I look at it like this: When I work with her, I'm a fan, and this is what I want her to be doing, " the producer added. "And one thing people do say about when I work with Ciara is that I make her sound better than ever," he continued. "I make her sound like a vocalist versus the other stuff she may do that's more performance, where she can get on the dance floor. It's kind of the same thing with Aaliyah. She may not have been the best singer, but her voice was so unique and her sound — she had her own lane, and I think Ciara is like that same thing." (MTV News)

Although Polow may have meant the comparison as a compliment, Polow must not know about the Ciara/Aaliyah stans...

Check out this behind the scenes clip taken on Teairra Mari's "Hunt for You" music video set with Pleasure P and famed director Benny Boom.

click here if you can't see the video.

UPDATE: Check out this new Teairra Mari song called "Holla."

click here if you can't see the video.

According to reports, Keshia Chante recorded a new track called, "I Hope You Cry" (producedy by Timbaland) for the upcoming Aaliyah biopic and soundtrack. Give it a quick listen...

click here if you can't see the video.

If this song is actually one recorded for the movie, I can safely assume that the film soundtrack producers are not only going to use original Aaliyah songs. Anyone else curious to see who will play Aaliyah's close friends?

KEISHA CHANTE TO PORTRAY AALIYAH IN NEW BIOPIC
According to online reports and bloggers, R&B singer Keisha Chante is said to portray the late Aaliyah in a upcoming 2009 biopic.

Previously Meagan Good and dancer Destiny Lightsy (see photos here) have campaign to play Aaliyah. Keisha does look like Aaliyah but hopefully she pulled it off just like Angela Bassett's effortless portrayal of Tina Turner. Are you looking forward to Aaliyah film or not?

FADER MAGAZINE HONORS AALIYAH
"Fader" magazine placed Aaliyah on the cover of their "Icon" May/June issue. Close friends of Aaliyah contributed their thoughts...

Aaliyah covers Fader magazine

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Detroit, Aaliyah Dana Haughton entered the music scene with her first album, "Age Aint Nothing but a Number" at the age of 15. From that point forward, Aaliyah began to revolutionize the popscape with a quick and effortless swoop, embodying what the editors of The FADER love right now; her influence in 2008 an omnipresent force from the futuristic megahits dominating the airwaves to the demure pop sensibilities fluttering throughout the underground.

Before Aaliyah's life was cut short in 2001, the Grammy-nominated artist sold millions of records worldwide—collaborating with producers and artists including Missy Elliott and Timbaland. Although Aaliyah was only in the spotlight for a short time, she had a major impact on these artists personally, and many others professionally including Mark Ronson, Ciara, Method Man, Beth Ditto, and Kid Sister. These artists and more were all interviewed, offering their take on how Aaliyah’s impact has transcended over the years, long after her death.

"It only took Aaliyah a few albums to make an indelible mark on the world of pop music, but today her influence can be felt across numerous genres," said Chris Richards, Executive Editor of The FADER. "This issue not only tracks that influence, but also offers a more personal glimpse into the life of a true pop visionary."

Missy Elliott
"We was gonna save the world. We was gonna change music every chance we got. We was gonna always be family. Forever."

Mark Ronson
"If it wasn't for Aaliyah being the face and voice of [Missy Elliott and Timbaland's] sound they might have never got to where they did. They were presenting their sort of brilliant but challenging breakthrough music through this beautiful young girl who could sing it perfectly."

Kidada Jones
"I think about her all the time...Anytime she's brought up or her music comes on the radio, it’s sweet, but it definitely sounds like she found a niche before it was here. If you listen to her music it's so relevant today, but we had it so long ago."

Damon Dash
"She was already a fashion icon, she was getting into movies, she had already planted that seed. If she was alive today she would be so relevant. I see little bits of her everywhere I look, in a lot of artists."

Damon's statement certainly hit the target. Aaliyah's legacy can be seen in many of today's artists...

6 YEARS LATER

6 years has passed since Aaliyah's tragic end. Thanks to youtube user Spally87, you can sit back and reflect on all of Aaliyah's good times spent.

Aaliyah was just 22 years old when she filmed her last music video, "Rock the Boat" down in the Bahamas. Visit Aaliyah's official website to see a poem her brother Rashad wrote in memory of her. Real Gossip has the full info on the memorial service.

Industry Friends

The celebrities are known for making friends within the industry and so here's a random list of known celebrity friendships in no particular order. Pictured above are sisters Da Brat and Lisa Raye with good friend Mariah Carey.

LeToya Luckett and Ciara
Houston's own LeToya and ATL's Ciara are connected through music producer Jazze Pha.

Kelly Rowland and Beyonce Knowles
Houston's childhood friends that went on to form the most successful R&B groups in the late '90s.

Mary J Blige and Lil' Kim
These two represents New York to the fullest as seen on their many joint projects like "I Can Love You" and that VIVA Glam Ad campaign.

Jamie Foxx and Eva Longoria
Oscar most flirtious (is that even a word) and pint-sized night-time soap opera star are simply friends.

Kelis and Ashanti
Both from NY (Kelis--Harlem and Ashanti--Glen Clove) celebrated their birthdays together in high style.

Omarion and Marques Houston
We have Marques to thank for bringing up B2k which lead to Omarion's solo career.

Rihanna and Teairra Mari
Two of Rocafella's female princesses just kicking it together.

Chris Brown, Bow Wow and Omarion
Friends in song I suppose. Rumor has it Bow Wow and Omarion don't care much for each other. As for Chris, he's cool with them.

Rihanna and Anthony Burrell
Although there has been several reports that these two are more than friends there's no subsential PDA pictures to prove otherwise. After all, he's just her backup dancer right?!

Solange and Omarion
They're been friends before each other's careers blew up. Solange appeared in Omarion's "Icebox" music video.

Brandy and Lil' Kim
Kim guest starred on "Moesha" and appeared on Brandy's brother Ray J song, "Wait A Minute."

Rihanna and Ne-Yo
He claimed she is like his kid sister...so they're simply best of friends for the moment.

Amerie and Christina Milan
They met backstage at the National Wear Red Day a while back.

Da Brat and Mariah Carey
You already know how close these two are...they're always in each other's projects. (Da Brat appeared in Mariah's "Shake 'Em Off" and "Glitter.")

Brandy and Kelly Rowland
Not too sure if these two are friends anymore BUT Brandy did write few songs on Kelly's Simply Deep album.

Da Brat, Missy, Lil' Kim and Aaliyah
These four were really tight back in the day.

Brandy and Serena Williams
Whenever Serena has a tennis match, Brandy is always photographed cheering on her best friend in the stand.

Lil' Kim and Aaliayah
These two New Yorkers appeared in each other's music videos. (Kim in Aaliyah's "If Your Girl Only Knew" and Aaliyah in Kim's "Crush On You.")

Brandy and Aaliyah
Way back in the day these two were cool.

Amerie and Beyonce
no they're actually cool with each other.

Amerie and Pharrell
Music wise they're tight.

I'll leave you all with Beyonce's long-time friends Alicia Keys and Jay-Z.
Check back for more 'industry friends.'

Juicy tidbits

Mandy Moore admitted she suffered from depression.
Mandy Moore
'Mandy Moore has a lot going for her, including a starring role opposite Diane Keaton in the upcoming comedy "Because I Said So." Even so, she says she's grappled with depression.
"A few months ago I felt really low, really sad. Depressed for no reason," the 22-year-old actress-singer says in an interview in the February issue of Jane magazine, on newsstands Tuesday.
"I'm a very positive person, and I've always been glass-half-full," she continues. "So it was like someone flipped a switch in me."
Moore, newly single after high-profile relationships with actor Zach Braff and tennis standout Andy Roddick, says her recent split with Braff didn't help matters.
"The breakup added to what I was going through, but it's not the complete reason," she tells the magazine. "It definitely doesn't help if you're already in that place ... ."
Moore started out as a squeaky-clean teen singer and later crossed over into movies with featured roles in such films as "A Walk to Remember," "Saved" and "American Dreamz."
"I feel bad that people wasted their money on such trite, blah pop music," says Moore about her earlier music.
Moore, who is working on a new record, has been looking inward a lot of late.
"I've been going through this really crazy time in my life — it's what I imagine people fresh out of college go through," she says. "I'm asking life-altering questions, like `Who am I? Where do I fit in this world? What am I doing, what do I want to do? Am I living to my full potential?'"
