JHUD'S OSCARS STYLE THEN AND NOW
When
Jennifer Hudson stepped out on the red carpet for the 80th Annual Academy Awards, I got up and clap because I think her Roberto Cavalli gown is a big improvement from her Oscar de la Renta '07 look. (Who could forgot the "
awful, awful gold python bolero"?)
So is Jennifer Hudson's Oscar 2008 style a risk or another fashion mistake?

Earlier yesterday morning, "Dreamgirls" star Jennifer Hudson appeared on NBC's "The Today Show" to talk about her Academy award win in New York City. Is Eddie Murphy a sore loser?
"Is Eddie Murphy a sore loser? After failing to nab the award for Best Supporting Actor to Little Miss Sunshine’s Alan Arkin, Murphy tried to brush off the loss, telling Us, "It's fine. It happens. It's OK."

OSCARS BODY LANGUAGE
US Weekly's Patti Ann Wood weighs on the body language of Beyonce, JHud, TomKat, Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban, and Eddie Murphy from Sunday night's Academy Awards. [Us Weekly]
Beyonce Knowles & Jennifer Hudson performing on stage: “If they are in competition, Jennifer is winning. Beyonce is not fighting for power, “ says Wood. “But rather resigned to the fact this is Jennifer's night. Jennifer’s facial expression is showing she wants to win. Beyonce has a relaxed face, but a downward glace and smirk shows judgment of Jennifer. She seems to be saying, "Whatever, girl." “Also, compare the hips. Jennifer’s hip is swung up and out with sass. Her elbow is up and out in a half cape position, showing she knows she is queen. Her hand is planted on her hip with the fingers dug in. Beyonce’s hand is held up tensely and awkwardly, showing she is not comfortable competing. Beyonce is even doing a shoulder bow, proving she gives in to Jennifer’s power overload.”
VERDICT: Knowles is no competition for Hudson.
Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban at the Vanity Fair Party:
“Nicole is pulled up, tight and tense,” notes Wood. “She is totally self-contained while he is showing deference and friendliness with his slightly tilted head, a sweetly relaxed open mouth smile, and slightly hooded relaxed eyes. His hand is towards her showing he is willing to hold hands, but hers are straight down and showing slight tension that seems to say, ‘Let me alone for now.’”
VERDICT: Nicole needs to lighten up.
Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes at the Vanity Fair Party:
“The most interesting sign [here] is how he is holding her hand tightly and high up close to his waist as if she was a little child in a super market who might get lost,” Wood observes. “He is showing he is concerned she might get away from him. And she is fully away from him except for that hold, standing in her own individual space or bubble, rather than close and pulled into Tom like she has been. Katie is the most poised and relaxed she’s been in over a year -- though her bowled and drooped down shoulders indicate she has been carrying a lot emotional weight.”
VERDICT: Don’t hold her back!
Madonna & Gwyneth Paltrow at the Vanity Fair Party:
“Madonna is trying to pull Gwyneth in to play. Although Gwyneth is smiling, it’s with a bit of tension, showing she does not want to go there,” says Wood. “She is pulling away. Notice how she works to not have her hip rest against Madonna. Gwyneth’s arm is held out high and away to balance her weight away from Madge rather than going naturally inward. The tension in her upraised shoulder and her face turned away with a strained neck mean. Gwyneth really does not want to look silly.”
VERDICT: Total frenemies.
Eddie Murphy & Tracey Edmonds on the red carpet:
“Eddie’s hand over her belly with the fingers splayed is the classic ‘Here is my baby’ gesture,” notes Wood. “Combined with his lower torso facing tight up against her and his unusually wide stance, he is also showing the classic ‘I am Man’ pose. All together, he seems to be saying, ‘Look at the baby I made.’”
VERDICT: And baby makes three?

Blame Andre for JHud's Oscar Dress!
Jennifer Hudson told Matt Lauer this morning that the only regret she had about the Oscars was her dress. Jennifer landed on a few worst dressed list for her Jetsons-inspired Oscar De La Renta thing. Vogue editor, Andre Leon Talley, kind of sponsored JHud and wanted to help her find the perfect dress. Unfortunately, he chose that mess. The morning of the ceremony, JHud wanted to go with a custom Roberto Cavalli dress instead. That’s when Andre lost it.
A source said, “Jennifer was kind of sponsored by Talley and Vogue. Andre insisted she wear that hideous Oscar de la Renta dress with the awful, awful gold python bolero. Jennifer really didn’t want to, and so [noted stylist] Jessica Paster got her a beautiful gold Roberto Cavalli custom-made. But when Andre found out, he went ballistic.
