COSTUME INSTITUTE GALA 2008

The annual Costume Institute Gala brought out the who who's in fashion, film, and music. The theme for the fashion-forward event was "Superheroes: Fashion & Fantasy". Some looks on the red carpet were daring and others simply underestimate their complete look...

Janet Jackson in a white Versace gown arrived to the fashion-forward event with boyfriend Jermanie Dupri. The pop icon also walked the red carpet with Donatella Versace and Allegra Versace.

Beyonce Knowles made her first red carpet appearance since becoming Mrs. Shawn Carter in a gorgeous strapless Giorgio Armani Prive dress. No sign of her husband, sister Solange or her Dc3 counterparts.

Tom Cruise came with his Giorgio Armani-wearing wife, Katie Holmes. (FYI: Armani designed her wedding gown.) On her feet are a pair of electric blue Christian Louboutins.

Jennifer Lopez showed little of her pregnancy bump in a blue tiered, asymmetrical Alberta Ferratti gown. Her husband Marc Anthony was right by her side.

Thandie Newton rocked a cape-inspired Chanel black lace look which prompted a smile from her friend, actor Jimmy Fallon. Those Azzedine Alaia dominatrix heels of hers are fierce, huh?

David and Victoria Beckham both look glamorous as she has on a vintage (re: Fall 1989 collection) Giorgio Armani gown. David and Victoria revealed on yesterday's Oprah that one of their first dates was catching Tom Cruise's "Jerry Maguire".

Kimora Lee Simmons went for a sassy colorful look with boyfriend Djimon Hounsou.

Venus Williams kept her look classy in a trapeze Carolina Herrera gown as she arrived with Vogue magazine's Andre Leon Talley. Andre styled Venus for a previous Vogue photo spread which you can check out here.

Mary J Blige, who took a brief break from her "Heart of the City" tour, sported a platinum blonde hairstyle with a black strapless ball Michael Kors gown. Her husband Kendu Isaacs was right by her side. (I love her Gucci clutch!)

Paula Patton and Robin Thicke simply complemented one another at the event AND at the Nina Ricci-after party. Robin's 2006 ode ("Lost Without You") to his wife, Paula made People magazine's "Most Beautiful" list.

A newly engaged Joy Bryant wore a '70s inspired PUCCI turtleneck dress.

Chanel Iman, upcoming model dubbed the industry's it girl by Oprah Winfrey, rock this bandage-like Herve Leger dress for a recent "Vogue" photo shoot.

Victoria Beckham, fashion savvy wife of David Beckham, rock the same lavendar and gray dress to attend Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 runway show in New York City. Posh as she's also known as pair the dress with matching open-toe slingbacks and a chic mini Hermes Birkin bag.

All eyes were on Victoria Beckham's facial reaction after husband David Beckham scored his first goal as a L.A. Galaxy soccer team player at a recent match:

Everyone around the Beckham box seem thoroughly excited but Victoria simply opted for her famous pout. So Victoria holding her youngest Cruz might have been the reason for her lack of enthusiasm but Mrs. Beckham, where's the support?! Things that make me go hmm....

BECKHAMS AND LATIFAH CATCH UP

New L.A resident couple David and Victoria Beckham bumped into a cornrow-wearing* Queen Latifah while shopping at a West Hollywood boutique. [source]

Beckhams and Laitfah may seem odd pair of celebs to bump into one another but keep in mind David counts Diddy and Snoop as his favorite hip hop artists. Also Victoria had a contract with Rocafella when Dame Dash was still on board. Aren't you at least curious as to why Latifah wasn't at the Beckhams' lavish welcome L.A. bash from a few days ago?!? *Cornrows is the best style for the summer, huh? I'm rocking mines' too.

BECKHAMS HOOPLA

Hosted by Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith, the "official welcome-to-Los Angeles" party for British imports David and Victoria Beckham had nothing but A-list celebs like Rihanna, Vivica A Fox, Lil' Kim, LisaRaye, Jim Carrey, Serena Williams, Jenny McCarthy and Eva Longoria. The event was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Geffen Contemporary gallery. [source 1, source 2, source 3]

Jim Carrey and girlfriend Jenny McCartney looked very chic...despites the fact that's the same dress Vivica A Fox and Anika Noni Rose wore already.

Rihanna usually gets it right but she misses. Everyone gets a day off in Hollywood.

Miss Fox dressed elegant and classy. 40 and over is certainly working in her favor. Get 'em girl!

LisaRaye looks flawless. Blue is a color she should wore more often than her staple white.

Serena look fab in a black jumper and a fly shorter bob. Where's Jackie Long, Serena's boyfriend, at?!?

TomKat got it right...right down to matching purple. Katie wore the hue on her feet while Tom wore it all over.

Mel B proves post-baby shape is the best in this pink satin number.

Eva looks real happy post French wedding and all. She's flaunting that HUGE diamond ring of hers!

Fierce!

LOOK ON LOCK EDITION: KELLY VS POSH

Because of Red Carpet Style Awards, Urban-Hoopla has another hot red carpet comparison. Fashion forward wonders Victoria Beckham, and Kelly Rowland both rock this fitted Roberto Cavalli corset out and about in the UK recently:

Victoria first wore this corset out to the 2007 Glamour Women of the Year Award (the very same event Kelly attended), while Kelly wore the animal-print verison to her official UK party at hot night spot, Nobu.
So I must ask, which look is on lock? Kelly or Posh?

Break out your old copies of "Spice World", those bubblegum collect-them all wrappers, your old Sketchers platforms, and your British swagger---the Spice Girls have reunited for a special 11-city world tour. Mel B and the girls just wanted to give a proper farewell to their fans worldwide.

Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, Mel C "Sporty Spice", Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell, Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton and Mel "Scary Spice" B from The Spice girls have announced an 11-show reunion tour throughout December and January. They will perform around the world with shows in Los Angeles on Dec. 7; Las Vegas on Dec. 8; New York on Dec. 11; London on Dec. 15; Cologne, Germany, on Dec. 20; Madrid, Spain, on Dec. 23; Beijing on Jan. 10; Hong Kong on Jan. 12; Sydney, Australia, on Jan. 17; Cape Town, South Africa, on Jan. 20; and Buenos Aires, Argentina on Jan. 24.

BEYONCE VS KYLIE

Thanks in part to YouTube there's a split screen video of Beyonce vs Kylie. Last night at the 2007 BET Awards, Beyonce has supposedly swagger jacked Kylie's Come Into My World dance sequence and costume changes straight from Fever 2002 Kylie tour dvd. This is not the first time Beyonce supposedly swagger jacked from someone's work. She remade Victoria Beckham's "Resentment":

Beyonce has also remade Des'ree song which can be replaced by "World Wide Woman" on the "B'Day Deluxe Edition" copies:

Beyonce is currently being sued by soul star Des'ree after she covered one of her songs and put it on her B'Day Deluxe album without copyright permission.

Can't Beyonce catch a break?!??!

WHO SANG IT BETTER: BEYONCE EDITION

Beyonce Knowles and a French artist called Amine have in common the song, "Naughty Girl." Supposedly "Naughty Girl", a song off Beyonce's Grammy-winning album, Dangerously in Love, plays off Amine's La Genie.

Hmm....maybe I should have categorized this 'story' as a say word edition because that's all I kept saying as I listen to both songs was say word?!?! Anime probably heard about that Beyonce/Victoria Beckham drama over the song "Resentment." I officially applaud Beyonce because the more fans she has the more haters she gets!

FFW SPOTLIGHT: YSL CLIQUE

Introducing the elite YSL clique:

Eve, Jessica Simpson, Blu Cantrall, MJB, Ciara, Mariah, Beyonce, Victoria Beckham, Gwen Stefani, J.Lo, and Christina Aguilera represented this unique clique that caused a trend in Hollywood.
