Sometimes when I'm writing a song like "Bye Bye", it does come from such a raw place that I'm like, I'm actually crying while writing it, or thinking about it. But sometimes I will hear it and go 'I feel like this is gonna touch a lot of people.' And that's why it's important, that no matter what's ever happened to me throughout my career, that I stay the course and continue to write and try and reach people who need it, because I know that I'm one of those people. When someone does that and they write something that touches me, I'm like indebted to them forever.

The 2008 ASCAP Awards brought out the Richie family (Nicole Richie, Lionel Richie, and Sophia Richie). Other guests included newly fashion designer Melanie Brown and her husband Stephen Belafonte as well as Justin Timberlake, Fergie, and Keri Hilson.

Lionel, Fergie, and Justin were honored by The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers for their musical songwriting contributions.

Lionel's daughter Nicole was there to see him accept his ASCAP Golden Note Award. Fergie's hit "Big Girls Don't Cry" won for Song of the year. Justin picked up two awards for his songs, "My Love" and "Until The End of Time".

On the fashion tip, Keri has on the same Alice + Olivia floral mini-dress Aubrey O'Day wore to the Danity Kane Vegas bash.

Fergie and Nicole are bringing back the maxi-length dresses, huh?
